Knee injury ends Flores´ season

Marcos Flores will miss the rest of the A-League season after the star Central Coast midfielder ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee.

Flores sustained the injury during training on Thursday and an MRI scan has confirmed Central Coast s worst fears.

The 2011 Johnny Warren medallist, who tops the Mariners scoring charts with three goals, will require a knee reconstruction.

It is my desire to improve every day, and for two hours each day I fight in training to be better, he said.

Yesterday was the day that, unfortunately, the injury had to happen to me. I will remain strong and hope to come back one day to Bluetongue (Stadium) better.

I trust in the medical team and trust that the Mariners as a family will look after me. Today I am in a li…

Portsmouth football club enter administration

Portsmouth were condemned to relegation Friday after becoming the first Premier League team to enter administration in a move designed to avoid the 112-year-old club going out of business altogether.

The move means Portsmouth will automatically be docked nine points, a penalty which virtually guarantees the top flight s bottom club will drop to the second-tier Championship at the end of the season.

The entry into administration was confirmed at London s High Court following the failure of attempts by Portsmouth s Hong Kong-based owner Balram Chainrai to find a buyer willing to bail out a business with debts in excess of 60 million pounds (90 million dollars).

A fire-sale of the club s best players, who include England goalkeeper David James, is now inevitable as…

Ronaldo bagged a consolation penalty in the second half of Portugal s 2-1 Euro 2020 qualifying defeat to Ukraine in Kiev on Monday.

The 34-year-old superstar made no mistake from 12 yards after Taras Stepanenko was penalised for handling the ball inside the box, but it was not enough for Portugal as they lost for the first time since the 2018 World Cup.

Defeat for Portugal at the Olympic Stadium made the occasion bittersweet for Ronaldo, who is now part of an elite list of players to have reached the milestone figure.

The 21-year-old midfielder has shone since Serie A resumed following the coronavirus-enforced break, having previously thought his season would be curtailed when he tore a knee ligament in January.

Capello believes the Italy international is a rare talent in world football.

Manchester City v Tottenham: Boring, boring City? Not with Kevin De Bruyne around

After his third incredible assist of the night, Kevin De Bruyne s raw emotion spilled out in an outburst part-gladiatorial and part, well… odd.

This is our house, our house! This is our house! he exclaimed repeatedly, pointing at the Etihad Stadium turf after Sergio Aguero put Manchester City ahead on aggregate for the first time in a helter-skelter Champions League quarter-final.

Unfortunately for De Bruyne and City, Fernando Llorente snuck in through the back door before Aguero triggered the hyper-sensitive alarm that is VAR, meaning Raheem Sterling s apparent last-gasp winner was ruled out.

The heartache continued in that weekend s Premier League rematch as the Belgium midfielder hobbled out of a knife-edge 1-0 win – a result pivotal in them claiming back…
