´Too soon´ to discuss Lukaku future, says agent

Romelu Lukaku s agent has said it is too soon to discuss whether the Belgium international will play for Chelsea next season.

The striker has spent the last two campaigns out on loan at West Brom and Everton, and has impressed in both spells scoring 31 Premier League goals in total.

Lukaku has started just one top-flight game for Chelsea since his move from Anderlecht in 2011, and it is unclear whether he has a future at Stamford Bridge.

The 20-year-old s agent Christophe Henrotay believes that will depend on what players the London club bring in during the close-season.

For the moment, Romelu belongs to Chelsea, Henrotay told footmercato.net.

He has two years left on his contract. It s going to depend on Chelsea. After that, we ll see together what the …

Ligue 1: Saint-Etienne 2 Lille 0

Ten-man Lille s Ligue 1 title hopes were dealt a further blow as Rene Girard s side slipped to a 2-0 defeat at Saint-Etienne on Friday.

The visitors were well beaten by Christophe Galtier s men, who are now only three points behind Lille in the race for the final UEFA Champions League spot.

Defeat keeps the 2010-11 Ligue 1 champions seven points behind leaders Paris Saint-Germain and two adrift of second-placed Monaco, who both play on Sunday against Nantes and Toulouse respectively.

Brandao opened the scoring 10 minutes into the second half, the Brazilian striker netting only his second league goal of the campaign.

The former Marseille man was presented with the simple task of nodding home at the far post from Faouzi Ghoulam s excellent left-wing cross.

Spain boss Lopetegui delighted with Costa

Spain head coach Julen Lopetegui says Diego Costa looks like he is at last enjoying life with the national team.

The Chelsea striker admitted this week that he is beginning to feel increasingly relaxed with the rest of the squad following a difficult first three years as a Spain international.

Costa failed to find form in their poor 2014 World Cup campaign and was omitted from the squad for Euro 2016 after poor performances in the 2015-16 season.

However, the 28-year-old who has scored 17 Premier League goals this season to fire Chelsea towards the title has hit three in his last three appearances on the international stage, and Lopetegui has been delighted by what he has seen of late.

He s calm and happy, Lopetegui told Radio Marca. He has had a lot of …

El Salvador v Canada: Canucks target successive wins

Fresh from completing a revenge mission against Honduras, Canada will seek to continue their promising start to CONCACAF World Cup qualifying when they face El Salvador away from home on Tuesday.

Canada missed out on a place in the decisive final round of qualifying for Brazil 2014 when they suffered a humiliating 8-1 loss to Honduras in October 2012.

That embarrassing defeat prompted the departure of head coach Stephen Hart, to be succeeded by Benito Floro in August 2013.

The Spaniard guided his players to a cathartic 1-0 win over Honduras on Friday, righting at least some of the wrongs from the capitulation in San Pedro Sula three years ago.

Now Les Rouges are aiming to make it two wins in succession to open the fourth round of qualifying by beating th…

Switzerland 2-1 United States: Rodriguez & Zuber seal Euros warm-up win

Switzerland stepped up preparations for Euro 2020 by coming from behind to beat the United States 2-1 in St Gallen.

Vladimir Petkovic s men were 1-0 down in just over four and a half minutes as Sebastian Lletget captialised on Switzerland s failure to clear their lines.

His close-range strike made it five goals in his last six USA games for Lletget, but the visitors joy was short-lived as Ricardo Rodriguez levelled in the 10th minute.

Rodriguez found the net with a deflected drive from the edge of the area following Silvan Widmer s right-wing cross, but the left-back then followed his goal by spurning a gilt-edged chance to complete the turnaround.

The Torino left-back sent a penalty wide of the right-hand post after Sergino Dest was ruled to have handle…

Messi deal would be ´surreal´ and ´mind-boggling´, but it would not fix everything at Man City

Lionel Messi joining Manchester City would be a surreal moment for the club but will not fix all of their problems, it was claimed on Thursday.

The six-time Ballon d Or winner stunned the footballing world on Tuesday when he told Barca of his desire to leave the club he joined at the age of 13.

City are one of a small number of sides believed to be interested in Messi, who reportedly intends to activate a clause in his contract that would allow him to leave for free.

Messi has scored 634 goals in 731 appearances during his time at Camp Nou.

David Mooney, host of the popular and long-running Blue Moon Podcast, is excited about the prospect of City signing the prolific Argentinian.

I think it s all a bit surreal at the moment. The idea that City co…

Prediction: Fiorentina vs Roma

Best Odds: 2/5

Bookmaker:

Looking to make up some ground in the top-four chase, Roma will travel to Tuscany on Sunday night when they meet Fiorentina.

Fiorentina

Starting with the hosts, mounting a stunning Europa Conference League comeback away at Maccabi Haifa, Fiorentina will be desperate to use that dramatic late flurry as a platform to build on. Eventually securing an action-packed 4-3 victory on foreign soil, the Lilies know the importance of claiming some crucial domestic stability. Tumbling away from the Champions League chase since opening the New Year, Vincenzo Italiano’s men have recorded just a pair of victories from any of their previous nine domestic appearances across all competitions. However, last seen at the Stadio Artemio Franchi picking up…

Pep Guardiola felt Manchester City had survived a “tsunami” after the champions’ crunch Premier League title clash at Liverpool on Sunday ended 1-1.

Liverpool 0 Manchester United 1: Captain Rooney settles low-key contest

Wayne Rooney continued his return to form at Anfield on Sunday, striking 12 minutes from time to earn Manchester United a 1-0 win against fierce rivals Liverpool.

In a largely tepid contest lacking quality on both sides, Rooney reacted quickest when Marouane Fellaini s header rattled the crossbar  ensuring United a fourth consecutive victory over the Merseyside outfit.

Liverpool still in flux under Klopp and struggling for consistency had the better of the first-half chances but were made to rue missed opportunities from the likes of Adam Lallana and Jordan Henderson.

Louis van Gaal s men also looked to have reverted to their goal-shy ways of recent weeks, showing little sign of the renewed attacking vigour on show during Tuesday s 3-3 draw at Newcastle Un…

Copa do Brasil Review: Vasco da Gama, Novo Hamburgo advance

Vasco da Gama qualified for the last-16 of the Copa do Brasil after prevailing 4-1 on aggregate against Ponte Preta.

Second-tier club Vasco da Gama were 2-0 winners away from home in the opening leg last week and they backed that up with a 2-1 victory over Ponte Preta in Rio de Janeiro on Thursday.

Douglas put the 2011 champions ahead in the 20th minute courtesy of a penalty, before Jonathan Cafu restored parity for Ponte Preta 19 minutes later at the Estadio Sao Januario.

However, Ponte Preta one point adrift of Vasco da Gama in 12th position in Brazil s Serie B standings were level for all but three minutes as Rafael Costa sent the ball into his own net approaching the half-time interval.

Vasco da Gama reached the final stages last year before bowing ou…
